Step 3: Enrichment  Pupils ( Teaching & Learning  Activity 2)

·         Pupils are divided into groups of 4.
·         Teacher prepares each group with a flash cards in an album, and small white board( teaching Aids 2). Each pairs of pupils in a group will rotating their turn to read and write  the volume of liquid.
·         Each group will pours the beaker with colored water according to the flash cards. The other pairs check.
·         Teacher shows and explains how to read the scale on the beaker.

         















Closure :
  • ·         Teacher takes pupils out of class. Pupils are divided into 3 groups.
  • ·         Each group will be provided with a pail of colored water, a sponge and a bottle.
  • ·         Each group will have to fight to get winner who able to pours most water using sponge in 2 minutes.  
  • ·         End of the time, teacher collects all bottles and compare the volume of liquid directly or using measuring cylinder. 
  • ·         The highest scale of volume of liquid will be the winner.
  • ·         Teacher concludes concept of volume of water.

Learning Objectives: 
    Use direct comparisons to compare:

    (c)  the volume of two different containers
l  Use concrete materials/objects.
   Example :  (i)   Plastic jar.
                     (ii)   Containers.
                     (iii)  Cups etc.
Suggested Teaching & Learning Activities
l  Pupils are asked to bring a variety of containers. 
l  Take the pupils to the out of classroom.
l  Ask pupils fill and empty containers, describing them as full, half full, empty, or as having more or less liquid in them after filling or emptying.
l  Teacher also shows how to compare the volume of water using a few teaching aids as mention before in this blog.
l  Pupils do “Guess and Check” activities.
               
                e.g.  1:                  How full will this bottle be when I pour in this jug of water?
                 e.g.  2 :                 Will all the water in the glass go into the cup?
  • Teacher shows volume of liquid chart.
·         Teacher posts a few question to the pupils by referring the chart.
·         As a closure, pupils sing a song.
